The Kunstpalast, a museum with its pleasant setting in the Ehrenhof right on the banks of the Rhine and close to the Düsseldorf city centre, holds a range of collections.
The collection of paintings, for instance, comprises European paintings from the 15th to the early 20th century, being founded on the legendary gallery of paintings of Elector Johann Wilhelm von der Pfalz. A particular focus within this collection is the Düsseldorf School of Painting. The collection of prints and drawings holds approximately 80,000 sheets of works from the 15th to the 21st century. The department of sculpture and applied arts is particularly well stocked with works from the Medieval, Gothic and Baroque periods. With over 10,000 exhibits, the internationally acclaimed glass collection presents the history of glass from antiquity through to contemporary studio glass. The collection of modern art comprises paintings, sculptures, objects, photographic works, as well as video art from the 20th century through to the present day.
With its widely reviewed special exhibitions on Andy Warhol and Andreas Gursky, Caravaggio and El Greco, or themed exhibitions, such as Bonjour Russia and Diana and Actaeon Museum Kunstpalast has acquired an international reputation.
