Musikforum

Home arena to the Bochum symphony orchestra

It is called secularization when a new purpose is added to an old church. The conversion of the former St. Marien church to the Anneliese Brost Musical forum shows that this can be done architecturally demanding, cost-effectively and cultural-politically. It is now home ground to the Bochum Symphony Orchestra, who used to primarily play at the Ruhr University’s Audimax before. If the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg is characterized by a sense of mission, this stands for active pragmatism: A lot of money was raised by Bochum citizens to realize the project. The vicinity to the nightlife district Bermuda3Eck can be understood as a symbolical bridge building to the city.
