Certified hikes

Premium hiking trails and quality hiking trails

With a hiking trail network covering over 50,000 kilometres, it’s not easy to choose. Help comes in the form of certified quality hiking trails, which are tested according to different criteria and awarded with a seal.

Is a trail small and left in a natural state, or broad and tarmacked? Are there palaces, castle ruins or guesthouses along the way? Hiking trails that bear the name “Qualitätsweg Wanderbares Deutschland” (“German quality hiking trail”) or the “Deutsche Wandersiegel für Premiumwege” (“German hiking quality seal for premium trails”) awarded by the German hiking institute, or Deutsches Wanderinstitut, offer particularly beautiful tours with tested quality. Every three years, experts monitor whether the trails are allowed to retain their seal. We have compiled a list of all inspected hiking trails in North Rhine-Westphalia. The letter and seal confirm that an excellent hiking experience is guaranteed.
