Gloria
What's wonderful and starts with a 'G'?
The Gloria in Cologne is one of the most popular concert halls in the city, not just for music fans, but also for musicians themselves. Plushy walls, excellent acoustics, a good view and a relaxed atmosphere make the Gloria in the inner city of Cologne a wonderful concert venue.
What makes the club unusual is that its varied history can still be seen and felt in many places. The Gloria began life in 1956 as a cinema and theatre, and evidence of these early years can still be seen in the sumptuous entrance area and the charming theatre bar. The oversized neon lettering in the entrance area, as well as the box office cubicle, are a reminder of the fact that during the 1970s, the Gloria was a porn cinema. During those years, it was illegal to charge an entrance fee for sex films. The Gloria therefore made it mandatory to purchase sweets at the box office. It was not until the 1990s that the Gloria was turned into a party location, concert venue and comedy and cabaret theatre. Numerous television recordings have been made here, and parts of the successful cinema film “Der bewegte Mann” were filmed in the Gloria. However, unforgettable live concerts have also been played here. Coldplay, Oasis, Foo Fighters and Muse are just a few of the bands who have played club concerts (which were immediately sold out) to less than 1,000 fans.
