Unna: Lindenbrauerei; Rio-Reiser-Weg

The inofficial Rio Reiser fanclub

You can't miss the listed chimney stack of the Lindenbrauerei Unna brewery on the edge of the pedestrian zone. It is a reminder of the history of the building as a former beer brewery. Since the early 1990s, the building has become one of the busiest socio-cultural centres in the region. It is supported by a self-administered association, in which there are around 30 individual groups who provide a diverse programme, ranging from concerts, parties for 20-somethings to partygoers well over 50, dance courses and theatre performances. There is a particular love in the Lindenbrauerei for the unforgotten songwriter Rio Reiser, whose brother lives in Unna. Among other events, the Lindenbrauerei awards the “Rio Reiser Song Prize” every few years, which is celebrated with a Rio Reiser festival. After a long dispute with the local administration, the name of the street has now been changed. Now, the venue’s address is officially “Rio-Reiser-Weg 1”.
