Vier-Jahreszeiten-Park in Oelde
Family fun with treehouses, hanging bridges and a children’s museum
The Vier-Jahreszeiten-Park (Four Seasons Park) in Münsterland is particularly popular among young families, with plenty of activities for all four seasons.
Oelde’s modest town park was completely transformed for the Landesgartenschau 2001 regional garden exhibition. The Four Seasons Park is now especially popular with young families.
Summer is not the only high season at the Four Seasons Park: while most parks make do with a summer festival, the Four Seasons Park organises family festivals right throughout the year. Spring is time to celebrate new bursts of life, jugglers and entertainers keep the crowds happy in summer, events for Universal Children’s Day take place in autumn, and skating provides the fun in winter.
This is truly an all-weather park. When it’s sunny, kids (and sometimes adults) clamber from treehouse to treehouse on the hanging bridges or romp around in the play castle and outdoor swimming pool. When it’s rainy, they can learn lots of new facts in the Klipp Klapp children’s museum. As well as themed sections on water and grain, this “hands on” museum for families explains what causes clouds, wind and weather.
Six large and colourful cubes with designs by the artist Otmar Alt alert motorists on the A2 Autobahn that a garden paradise awaits at the next exit. The artist’s colour and design language can be seen throughout the park: a cheerful group of sculptures greets visitors at the entrance and even the picnic huts are designed by Alt.
On the Museninsel, visitors will find impressive bamboo plantations as well as aviaries with exotic birds. The entire park is connected by a 2.5-kilometre promenade-style pathway. Starting from the meadow, it passes the adventure farm, the forest stage and the rose garden before finishing in the tranquil town of Oelde.
