So many historical buildings in one place. And also so chic! May I introduce to you the old town of Gräfrath? The picture that I offer you here is that of a dream - you have to admit it. My typical Bergisch half-timbered houses are lined up tightly in the many narrow, winding streets. Black slate roofs and green shutters characterize the cityscape. And as if that wasn't impressive enough, my residents like to go one better: opulent flower pots and lovingly designed gardens as far as the eye can see. A single photo backdrop best describes this place. It's no wonder that my entire old town is a listed building. Can you hear the splashing? This is the fountain in my marketplace, my heart. It also contributes to the idyllic overall picture of this square. However, it’s when the first rays of sunshine break through the cloud cover that this place comes to life. Come by Kaffeeklatsch for some gossip with coffee, a lunch break or a cool drink - there are a number of ways to linger here. And under my maple trees, you will find many other cozy spots. How about you pay my old lady a visit? The imposing monastery church of St. Maria Himmelfahrt towers over the market square and is the oldest building in the entire town, built in 1195. Crazy, right? If you still have some time to browse, be sure to take a look at the various galleries that are bustling around the market square. You can find some treasures here!
