Kuhviertel
Traditional pleasure
Popular not only with my students: my Kuhviertel – a mile of pubs where trendy bars meet typical Westphalian restaurants. During the day, you can stroll comfortably through the small streets and browse in owner-managed shops and when darkness falls, the real fun begins. Everywhere you’ll hear clinking glasses, popping corks and lively conversations in front of original pubs - such as the academic beer institute, “Cavete” or “Das Blaue Haus”. The district is on the edge of my old town, in the shadow of the Buddenturm, a tower reminiscent of my old city fortifications that used to be a gunpowder storage facility. But don't worry because today, he just stands there peacefully and definitely doesn't resist a few snapshots here and there. Where my city wall used to be is where you’ll now find my green belt: the promenade. Winding its way around the entire old town, it is adorned with hundreds of linden trees. How it smells here when they start to bloom - a dream come true! Here, you can walk, jog or cycle for miles without meeting any cars. But take it easy and enjoy this calm atmosphere.
