The Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe (LWL) is celebrating Westphalia's 1250th anniversary in 2025 with an anniversary program. The highlight of the extensive program is the exhibition "1,250 Years of Westphalia" in the LWL Museum in the Kaiserpfalz in Paderborn, which presents the history, culture and development of the region for everyone.
Interested visitors can explore the topic from the first mention of Westphalia in 775 right up to today's Westphalian way of life. The exhibition is accompanied by a comprehensive program of events and educational activities that will appeal to children and adults alike.
Other cultural highlights among the anniversary events include the exhibition "Democratic Cultures in the Sauerland 1925-1975-2025" at the Sauerland-Museum Arnsberg and the show "Dinosaurs - The Mesozoic Era in NRW" at the LWL-Museum für Naturkunde Münster. The first will be dedicated to the changing living conditions and democratic cultures of the Sauerland region from October 2025. The second aims to highlight the uniqueness of Westphalia's fossil heritage with original fossils of dinosaurs, plesiosaurs, prehistoric mammals and submarine crinoid reefs.
