The Kunstmuseen Krefeld are presenting "L'Art d'habiter. The Art of Living", the first major Charlotte Perriand retrospective in Germany. The French architect and designer (1903-1999), known from Le Corbusier's circle, revolutionized modern living by combining innovative furniture design with a vision of social change.

The exhibition, developed in cooperation with the Charlotte Perriand Archives, shows her most important works in the Kaiser Wilhelm Museum (KWM) and in the Mies van der Rohe villas Haus Lange and Haus Esters: from iconic tubular steel furniture of the 1920s to experimental housing projects and modular systems of the post-war period to the large-scale alpine project Les Arcs.

With walk-in room reconstructions, rare original furniture, photographs and film documents, Perriand's work can be experienced in its entirety. It offers a new reading in the light of debates on sustainability, modern architecture and a changing society.
