Loersfeld Castle

Kerpen

The picturesque Loersfeld Castle, nestled between the Loersfelder Busch to the west and the Kerpener Parrig forest to the east, is a real eye-catcher. The 10-hectare park, which was laid out in the 19th century in the English landscape style, surrounds the castle with moats, bridges and viewing points. In addition to native tree species such as oak, beech and maple, there are also exotic species such as magnolia, boxwood, robinia and arborvitae. A map from 1863, which is kept in the castle archives, shows the original six garden areas, which were harmoniously integrated into the natural topography. The park was badly damaged during the Second World War, but after the castle was renovated in 1990, it was restored to its original state using the existing maps. Today, the park is open to visitors for the excellent restaurant and special events. The restoration of the park included the removal of wild trees and shrubs, the replanting of hedges, the sowing of lawns, the planting of a fountain in the inner courtyard, the planting of trees in gaps, the laying of new paths and the creation and installation of park gates based on old models.
