The "AMAZÔNIA" exhibition, which has already been visited by almost two and a half million people worldwide, will make a stop at Cologne's Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum from October 29, 2025. The show features over 200 impressive black and white photographs by Brazilian star photographer Sebastião Salgado, which capture the breathtaking diversity of the Amazon region.

The images depict landscapes and indigenous people in their communities. They highlight the beauty of the Amazon, but also draw attention to the local dangers: the area is threatened by climate change, deforestation and exploitation by corporations, among other things. During a visit, guests can listen to suitable interviews with indigenous leaders on these topics.

With a soundtrack composed especially for "AMAZÔNIA" by Jean-Michel Jarre, the exhibition also provides immersive access to the world's largest rainforest and its culture. Workshops, performances and discussions complete the program.

The Amazon is also the subject of the exhibition "Amazônia. Indigenous Worlds" at the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn. From March 13, 2026, the exhibition will show around 400 exhibits depicting the living environments of the people. Through artefacts and images, it presents Amazonia as a living space with dense networks, intercultural exchange and a high level of sociability among hundreds of indigenous communities.
