From indigenous societies to utopian blockchain projects: The Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen is presenting a multifaceted exhibition at K21, in which over 20 international artists and collectives reflect on the use and management of resources. The focus is on soil - as an economic, ecological and social foundation.

The show combines urgent questions about the housing crisis in Düsseldorf with global challenges such as the protection of the Amazon. Through immersive video installations, sculptures made of chocolate and participatory spaces, the museum situates itself as an actor in the history of the global economy. The exhibition focuses on industrialization and mining as the roots of local prosperity.

By bringing together historical, economic and ecological perspectives, the exhibition invites visitors to reflect on a sustainable and just future. Düsseldorf as a location for large companies is reflected upon, as are the global effects of land use and resource distribution. The interplay of art, history and society makes "Grund und Boden" a relevant contribution to the current debate on climate change, social justice and economic responsibility. Those interested in history will also learn more about the exhibition venue K21 in its historical function as a parliament building.

With works by: Maria Thereza Alves, Simon Denny, Nir Evron, Dor Guez, Artists' Association of Congolese Plantation Workers (CATPC), Christopher Kulendran Thomas, Gordon Matta-Clark, Kathryn Larsen, Grace Ndiritu, Johannes Paul Raether, Lin May Saeed, Shimabuku, terra0, Ron Tran, Julia Watson and others.
