The exhibition "Women Artists! From Monjé to Münter" at the Kunstpalast in Düsseldorf presents 31 powerful women who created important works in the 19th and early 20th centuries despite considerable obstacles. As women were not allowed to study at the renowned Düsseldorf Art Academy at the time, they needed private means and extraordinary determination to pursue their goals.

Guests can expect not only an exciting rediscovery of historical works of art, including works by Elisabeth Jerichau-Baumann, Marie Wiegmann and Paula Monjé. They can also take a critical look at how social and institutional structures continue to shape the visibility of female artists today. With this impressive exhibition, which presents over 100 exhibits, the Kunstpalast tells the story of female art production in one place and provides a long overdue "second look" at a largely forgotten generation.

Further exhibition highlight

At the same time as the exhibition "Women Artists! From Monjé to Münter" at the Kunstpalast, the exhibition "SEX NOW" will take place in the neighboring NRW-Forum. It explores sexuality as a cultural, political and social phenomenon, focusing on the transformation of the sex industry towards more diversity and a female perspective.
