The exhibition "Meal time! How food unites us" at the LWL Museum of Archaeology and Culture in Herne, Germany, traces the cultural history of food from the royal banquet to the peasant banquet table. With more than 120 exhibits and exciting stories, the exhibition shows how sharing meals connects people across social boundaries and still acts as a "social glue" today.

Coming together at the table is considered a ritual. It reflects power relations and social norms. Who sits where? Who gets the best piece? Why is it important to wait for others to eat? These and other questions are addressed through works of art, historical finds and table objects.
