The new "Mythos Wald" exhibition at the Gasometer Oberhausen takes visitors to the fascinating forest regions of the world: from Brazil to the Congo to Europe, the show presents the enormous biodiversity of flora and fauna. It presents the culture of indigenous peoples whose habitat is increasingly under threat. In addition to impressive animal footage, film sequences and original exhibits, the exhibition also addresses the dramatic consequences of deforestation, slash-and-burn agriculture - scientifically prepared in collaboration with the Environmental Systems Research Institute (Esri).
The aim of the exhibition is to raise awareness of the state of our planet and to sensitize visitors both emotionally and intellectually to the future of the forest. The specially developed sound and light installation "Global Sunrise" by Oceans21, which stages an immersive journey through the awakening forests of the five continents, was to be a particular highlight. The dramaturgical highlight is the spectacular media art installation "The Tree" by Ars Electronica Solutions, which creates a monumental network of roots and crowns in the 100-metre-high industrial monument."Mythos Wald" thus joins the Gasometer's successful large-scale exhibitions such as "Planet Ocean" and "The Fragile Paradise".
