Christmas market in the Zechenpark

The Christmas market in the Friedrich Heinrich Colliery Park, which takes place in the industrial-historical ambience of the winding tower, pithead frame and historic mine buildings on the Quartiersplatz, is a real feast for the senses. With a wide range of Christmas gifts and decorations from regional traders, which change between the first and second weekend, it is worth visiting several times. The gastronomic offer is just as varied and invites you to feast on sweet and savory dishes as well as various mulled wine specialties. A daily stage program with regional bands and orchestras is another highlight. The Fördergemeinschaft für Bergmannstradition Linker Niederrhein e.V. (Association for the Promotion of Mining Tradition in the Lower Rhine Region) offers tower rides up the Schacht 1 winding tower, from where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Lower Rhine and the Ruhr region. The local animal park KALISTO is present at the Christmas market with its alpacas and there is a children's carousel for younger guests. The Christmas market is rounded off with atmospheric lighting and pays attention to sustainability by using reusable cups and mugs as well as energy-saving LED spotlights for the lighting.
