Just outside the city of Cologne is the tourist region of Rhine-Erft with its excellent cultural and recreational opportunities. Here you will find beautiful and historic places, extensive forest areas with idyllic lakes that are caused by the reclamation of lignite mining, and not to forget: an incomparable density of water castles, embedded in the varied scenic Rhineland Nature Park. In addition, the region has a variety of museums and the spectrum of exhibitions ranging from the early days to modern times.
