Atta Cave

Attendorn

A treasure was found: without suspecting it beforehand, the workers had uncovered the entrance to the legendary Atta Cave, which was thus entered by humans for the first time in millions of years. Like the Hanseatic town of Attendorn, in whose area the cave is located, this stone kingdom was later named after Princess Atta.

Today, visitors can explore this impressive underworld over a distance of 1.8 kilometers and immerse themselves in a cool and mysterious world at a constant temperature of nine degrees. Far away from the wind and weather, adventurers can listen to the eternal dripping of the water, which causes the stones to grow by just one millimeter every ten years.

However, it is not necessarily quiet in the Attahöhle these days, as it is visited by 150,000 to 200,000 people every year. It is rightly regarded as one of the largest and most beautiful stalactite caves in Germany.

Fresh air and peace and quiet

So that visitors can enjoy the peace and quiet of the cave despite the large crowds, the Atta Cave has a special offer: in the health grotto, guests can really relax, take in the fantastic lighting atmosphere and breathe in the clear cave air on loungers.

There is no dust, germs, pollen or ozone in the air here. Instead, a constant temperature of nine degrees and a constant humidity of 95 percent help you to breathe in a stimulating and deepening way. And the natural rock filters in the Atta Cave also ensure that the air here is even cleaner than a sea breeze or the air in the high mountains. The cave air has a particularly beneficial effect on people who suffer from bronchial problems, allergies or stress and can help to improve their condition.
