The Biological Station Kreis Recklinghausen e.V. is a publicly funded nature conservation organization. It was founded in 1990. Its tasks include looking after nature conservation areas, developing and implementing concepts for measures to protect species and biotopes, mediating between nature conservationists and land users and environmental education. There are currently 40 Biological Stations in NRW, which are organized as recognized non-profit associations in the umbrella organization of Biological Stations in NRW.
Since 2015, the Biological Station has also been one of seven nature park houses in the Hohe Mark Nature Park. In the information center's exhibition, visitors can find out about the changes in the natural and cultural landscapes with their forests, heaths, moors, waters, agriculture and settlements in western Münsterland. A special highlight is a new multimedia table with films, games and archive photos. Here, young and old can interactively learn about the history and tasks of the Biological Station or compete against each other in an animal memory game, apple quiz or bird song test. The outdoor area with its historic farm structures, dry stone walls, ponds, a half-timbered house, farm fountain and farm garden is also worth a visit.
