This summer, North Rhine-Westphalia is offering a unique mix of festival feeling and a world-class sporting competition atmosphere: from July 16 to 27, 2025, the FISU World University Games will not only feature international university athletes competing in 18 sports, but also show acts such as Ayliva, Deichkind, Ski Aggu and Querbeat.
Bochum, Duisburg, Essen, Mülheim an der Ruhr and Hagen will be the venues for competitions such as 3x3 basketball, including wheelchair basketball, BMX, urban dance, water sports and basketball, as well as stages for a major arts and culture festival with the motto: "Everyone plays!" This year's special edition of the Ruhr Games alone will provide workshops and live music around the Jahrhunderthalle Bochum.
Bochum also has a lot to offer from a sporting perspective at this largest multi-sport event after the Olympic and Paralympic Games: The Lohrheide Stadium with its 17,000 seats will be the center of the athletics competitions, making it one of the largest venues for the World University Games Rhine-Ruhr 2025.
