Dortmund's Christmas town is a popular destination for hundreds of thousands of visitors from the surrounding area and abroad every year. No wonder! After all, Hansaplatz is home to the largest Christmas tree in the world (made up of around 1,000 spruce trees) and numerous stalls offer everything from gift ideas, clothing, toys and decorations to delicious food and drink that your heart desires in the run-up to Christmas. These include mulled wine and beer, of course, as well as Westphalian grilled ham, crêpes, bratwurst and fruit skewers with chocolate. For some years now, the Christmas market in Dortmund has been called "Christmas City" - because the Christmas experience is not just limited to one area in the pedestrian zone, but extends over large parts of the city center.
Since 2021, there has been a special new feature that has already caused amazement and many selfies: Light installations along Kampstraße tell the story of the city's transformation from a Hanseatic city to a modern metropolis! There was already a lot to see last year: For example, a Hanseatic cog, a miner with a miner's lamp as well as a large Dortmund lettering, in whose letter "o" visitors:innen could take a seat for a photo. What exactly the light installations will look like this year has not yet been revealed.
