With the photo exhibition "Cared for! - Corporate welfare at GHH", the LVR Industrial Museum St. Antony-Hütte in Oberhausen is dedicating itself to a central chapter of industrial culture in the Ruhr region. Historical photographs from the Gutehoffnungshütte (GHH) photo archive show how closely work, everyday life and social care were linked in the environment of one of Germany's most important steel and engineering companies. On display are images of company housing, medical facilities and infant homes. Snapshots of children's parties, Christmas presents and anniversary celebrations reflect aspects of company care. They are impressive testimonies to a working world in which companies had an impact on the lives of employees and families far beyond the workplace.
At the same time, the exhibition takes a critical look at how caring this company social policy actually was and what part entrepreneurial calculation played in it. After all, welfare in the industrial Ruhr region meant not only support, but also loyalty, discipline and self-expression. Motivated, loyal and, if possible, permanently available workers were indispensable for the coal and steel industry. "Versorgt!" makes this historical context visible and opens up a multi-layered view of GHH, of social responsibility in industrial history. St. Antony-Hütte is the ideal location for the exhibition, as it is considered the birthplace of the Ruhr industry.
