The World Conference Center Bonn clearly illustrates Bonn’s transformation from the federal capital to an international conference destination. It features both historic rooms from the era of the Bonn Republic and later additions that have turned it into a modern convention center. Particularly striking is the former plenary hall of the German Bundestag, located directly on the Rhine: the circular seating arrangement, large glass surfaces, and open architecture symbolize transparency, closeness to the people, and the self-image of the Federal Republic. The Bundestag met here from 1992 to 1999. Today, the plenary hall is used for meetings, conferences, and events and can be toured as part of guided tours.
In total, the Congress Center in the Federal Quarter can accommodate up to 7,000 people. The heart of the building complex on United Nations Square is the extension, which opened in 2015, featuring large halls, foyer areas, and views of the UN campus. In this way, the World Conference Center Bonn brings together political history, architecture, and the international present in one place.
