The Münsterland offers nature experiences for everyone. Active holidaymakers in particular get their money's worth here. The best way to discover the region is by bike. The Münsterland region has various accessible certified cycle paths. In the Borken district alone, you can explore the area on various tours that are also suitable for wheelchairs, tricycles or handbikes. There are real treasures in the centre of this magnificent landscape: There are more than 100 castles, fortresses and manor houses to discover, including the medieval Vischering Castle, Raesfeld Castle with its zoo and the former Gravenhorst Monastery, which has been transformed into an art centre.
Explore charming towns
Other worthwhile destinations in the region are the quaint villages and charming towns, especially Münster. The 1200-year-old metropolis proves how young old can be with its lively city flair and diverse leisure and shopping facilities. Münster is characterised by its many green spaces, the Aasee lake and, in particular, its historic old town with the cathedral and Prinzipalmarkt. Cobblestones and picturesque half-timbered houses characterise the cityscape. Every evening, except Tuesdays, visitors can hear a special feature in the historic old town: On the church tower of St Lamberti, Germany's only female town tower keeper sounds her horn punctually at 8.30 pm.
