Vogelsang IP

Schleiden

The former Nazi Ordensburg Vogelsang in the middle of the Eifel National Park is not only one of the largest buildings of National Socialism, but also an expression of its arrogance and contempt for humanity. Due to its military use after the Second World War as "Camp Vogelsang", the site also reflects the path from the "Cold War" to the Europe of today.

Today, the International Place Vogelsang IP sees itself as a place of remembrance and a forum for questions about the present and the future. Vogelsang IP is a place of discourse and encounters: the modern exhibition and education center with its multimedia and modern offerings attracts a large international audience.

Nature lovers particularly appreciate the unique surroundings, the Eifel National Park. The Eifelsteig and Wildnis-Trail hiking trails running across the site make Vogelsang IP an ideal starting and finishing point for hikes. Every Sunday, a ranger tour and a barrier-free horse-drawn carriage depart for the abandoned Wollseifen settlement, which is around two kilometers away. In addition to daily guided tours, tower ascents offer breathtaking views over the landscape. If you need a snack in between, you can enjoy delicious Eifel specialties in the panoramic restaurant overlooking the Urftsee lake.

The Vogelsang IP Forum is the centerpiece of today's "International Square". The striking steel and glass structure of the visitor center deliberately stands in the middle of the "Adlerhof" and in contrast to the historic buildings. It provides access to the site's two central exhibitions: in the west wing, the permanent exhibition of the Vogelsang Nazi documentation entitled "Destination: Herrenmensch. Nazi Ordensburgen zwischen Faszination und Verbrechen" (Destiny: Herrenmensch. Nazi castles between fascination and crime), and in the east wing the "Wildnis(t)räume" (Wilderness spaces) experience exhibition of the Eifel National Park Center.

The barrier-free exhibitions, the Vogelsang IP Forum as a whole and the catering facilities are open daily from 10 am to 5 pm. The exhibition can also be read and heard in English, French and Dutch thanks to a media guide. The Vogelsang IP Academy offers a variety of open and bookable educational programs about the exhibition and the site.

A visit to the exhibition costs 8.00 euros, concessions 4.00 euros. The 100-hectare monument area itself is freely accessible and free of charge for hikers and cyclists; parking fees of 5 euros per vehicle apply for cars, motorcycles etc.
