Excursion destinations and hiking trails in nature

Forests, rivers and gentle hills: The natural landscape of the Teutoburg Forest is unique. And the cities in the region are also worth visiting.

A holiday in the Teutoburg Forest goes hand-in-hand with total relaxation: Numerous state-certified therapeutic baths and spas as well as hikes through the low mountain landscape ensure a healthy time out.

Therapeutic baths and spas

In Bad Salzuflen, the healing power of brine is at work: Graduation works in the city that were once used to extract salt now create a sea-like climate. Up to 300,000 litres of salt water trickle over high blackthorn walls. At Bad Driburg spa park, visitors can experience the healing power of the moor and the Driburg thermal baths, where the state-certified thermal waters ensure the well-being and relaxation of their guests.

Gigantic spikes: Externsteine cliffs

The Externsteine rock formation near Horn-Bad Meinberg are particularly impressive and a natural highlight of the region. The sandstone giants reach toward the heavens and have been in the Teutoburg Forest since the Ice Age. Rare plants and animals such as the stag beetle live in the Externsteine area, which is now a protected nature reserve. The main cliffs of the Externsteine are reflected in a pond and provide a fantastic photo motif.
