The Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn focuses on the world's oceans: with a cultural-historical and immersive exhibition, the exhibition venue emphasizes the importance of the oceans as the largest ecosystem on earth and climate regulator. Visitors can learn more about the function of the oceans by engaging with scientific exhibits, historical objects and artistic works. The show focuses on water as a source of raw materials, transportation and inspiration. Topics such as climate change, overfishing and environmental pollution are also addressed.
Special attractions include two immersive installations that make the "oceanic feeling" directly tangible: An "elevator to the deep sea" leads from the ocean surface to the Mariana Trench. It reveals the mysterious life of the deep sea - from glowing jellyfish to the legendary colossal squid. In addition, a virtual dive at a VR station takes guests to the wreck of the HMS Endurance, the second ship of the British Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition. The tall ship was trapped by the pack ice of the Weddell Sea in 1915, crushed and sank to the depths.
