DASA "World of Work" Exhibition

Dortmund

The DASA offers fascinating insights into selected professions, including jobs such as pilot, editor, and construction worker. Exhibits and interactive stations help visitors better understand the changes in workplace safety and technology.

Occupational safety means much more than following safety instructions, wearing the right clothing, and listening to your boss. No other exhibition in the world illustrates this as clearly as the DASA in Dortmund. Around 200,000 visitors each year confirm the relevance of this topic, which concerns each and every one of us.

No matter what industry you’re in—accidents can always happen: The exhibition provides a comprehensive overview of what people in various sectors have done to improve working conditions and ensure greater safety in the workplace. Technological developments and cultural-historical contexts play an important role in all thematic areas of the museum.

Power Plant Control Room Open for Tours

Across approximately 13,000 square meters of exhibition space—which is continuously updated—visitors can explore the control room of a power plant or the workspace of an editor. Here, they can try their hand at bookbinding; there, they can learn more about occupational medicine in a large corporation.

Particularly impressive are the sections on transportation, the construction industry, and the modern world of work. Various construction and transportation vehicles, such as an excavator or a historic streetcar, are on display. Visitors to the building construction area can learn how a house is built, from initial planning to interior design. With the push of a button, robots and 3D printers help fill in knowledge gaps about modern work technologies.

In recent years, DASA Dortmund has also created several new themed areas. In 2024, for example, a new exhibition on service professions opened, which can still be seen today. Thus, the museum—which celebrated its first partial opening in 1993 and is affiliated with the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health—continues to expand its focus on active learning.
