The Revier-Route along the Emscher and Ruhr rivers offers a unique opportunity to explore the water landscape of the Ruhr region. Over a distance of 62 kilometers, the tour leads to important water management sites in the region. It starts at Dortmund Central Station and leads along city streets to the Emscher. Sights such as the German Football Museum or the Dortmunder U are along the way. The route follows the Emscher Weg and leads to the Emscherquellhof, a picturesque half-timbered house with a pond. The route continues via the Haarstrang to Opherdicke with its impressive Opherdicke moated castle. The route then leads to the Ruhr Valley Cycle Path and through the Ruhr Valley to Schwerte. Here it is worth visiting the Rohrmeisterei and the nearby mustard mill. Further downstream, cyclists reach the Ruhr reservoirs Hengsteysee and Harkortsee, which were of great importance for the cleanliness of the river water. The Koepchenwerk on the Hengsteysee was one of the first large pumped storage power stations in Germany. A detour to the Werdringen moated castle in Hagen is recommended for lovers of historic castle complexes. The route ends at Wetter railroad station, from where you can take public transport back to the starting point at Dortmund main station. The Revier Route is a must for anyone who wants to experience the water landscape of the Ruhr region in a unique way.
