To the south, you arrive in the Siebengebirge - between Bonn-Beuel, Königswinter and Bad Honnef, the Rhine Cycle Route glides directly along the floodplains. The Drachenfels on the left, orchards and small landing stages on the right. The route is flat and the views change every minute: Ships, castle ruins on the heights, picnic spots by the water.

Continuing on to Cologne, you stay on the right bank of the Rhine: through Porz and Poll, then from Deutz you can enjoy the grand panorama with the cathedral and Hohenzollern Bridge. The Rheinboulevard is your front-row box - perfect for a break with a view of the city.

The river meanders through meadows and oxbow lakes in the Monheim Rhine bend, with greylag geese and willows lining the way. After Leverkusen you reach Düsseldorf. On the right bank of the Rhine, you ride through Golzheim to Kaiserswerth - cobblestones in the historic town center, the ruins of the imperial palace on the banks and ice cream parlors that lure you dangerously off the saddle.

From Duisburg, you can smell the scent of the harbor: the Rhine and Ruhr, barges, cranes and warehouses intersect in Ruhrort - industrial culture to cycle past. Then the Lower Rhine opens up with dykes and endless skies. You pass Wesel with its elegant cable-stayed bridge and cycle through tranquil willow landscapes to Rees, where the Rhine promenade attracts visitors with its sculptures and cafés.

For the finale, the cycle path takes you to Emmerich am Rhein. The red suspension bridge stretches photogenically across the river, the promenade is perfect for a last coffee - and perhaps the next tour idea.
