Migration is a central theme of our time and at the same time an ancient phenomenon. The exhibition "Two Million Years of Migration" at the Neanderthal Museum in Mettmann shows how deeply rooted mobility is in human history. Based on the latest scientific findings, the show illustrates four significant migration events - from the exodus of Homo erectus from Africa to the genetic shaping of Europe by steppe nomads around 5000 years ago. Particularly impressive is the encounter between Anatolian farmers and European hunters and gatherers 7500 years ago, which initiated new cultural and genetic developments.

With an interactive exhibition concept, the show gives visitors an exciting insight into the causes and consequences of global migratory movements. Visitors take away valuable impulses for the current social discussion about origin, identity and cultural change.
