With "Rococo under Construction - the Making of Augustusburg Palace", the UNESCO World Heritage Site Brühl Palaces is focusing on the creation of Augustusburg Palace in a special exhibition. From June 27 to November 1, 2026, the rarely shown Yellow Apartment will tell the story of the major construction site from 1725 onwards, revealing how one of Germany's most important rococo palaces was planned, built and furnished. More than 100 exhibits show the work of the architects Balthasar Neumann, François de Cuvilliés and Johann Conrad Schlaun. Historical drawings, plans, models, tools and materials illustrate the role played by the master builders and the client, Elector Clemens Augustus.

The exhibition focuses on the European network of artists and craftsmen, the first rocaille in Germany, the famous grand staircase as the highlight of the Rococo period and questions of building and preservation in the palace today. Interactive hands-on and multimedia stations make historical craftsmanship techniques tangible. They show Augustusburg Castle as a key location for the development of German rococo.
