Raesfeld is home to what is probably the largest cabbage market in Germany. Traditionally, everything revolves around the "white gold of the Lower Rhine" on the first weekend after All Saints' Day. Regional businesses offer the eponymous cabbage on site in all variations, sometimes raw as white cabbage or red cabbage, then already prepared and served as a hearty meal.

The lively market landscape that fills the streets of the idyllic town center comprises around 150 stalls: guests can learn more about the vegetables while buying cabbage and discuss how they are grown, processed and prepared. The route passes neighboring stores, which decorate their windows to match the market activities especially for the event. Farmers and agriculturalists also present their crafts along the way. They show agricultural equipment from today and the past.

With a bit of luck, travelers may even bump into the Kappeshoheiten, who are appointed as representatives of the Kappesmarkt. They greet visitors in a friendly manner, spread the word about the importance of cabbage and invite those interested to the evening Kappesball in the marquee. Here, gourmets can feast to their heart's content at the Kappes buffet with a wide variety of cabbage dishes.
