Day of Gardens and Parks

A stroll through green oases

Guests can explore beautiful places of nature on a route of their own choice through the roughly 150 public and private facilities that participate in the campaign weekend every year. A guided tour and cultural programme complete the diverse offer.

Looking at the scenic gems to be discovered in the region’s parks, gardens, or green spaces, the Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe (LWL) launched the Day of Gardens and Parks in 2012. Since then, about 150 facilities open their doors to lovers of nature on the second weekend in June every year. Public facilities as well as private premises in the Münsterland, Ruhr area, East and South Westphalia take part

The sensory tour leads to medicinal monastery plants, rural flower beds, exotic trees, or amazing ornamental plants. Royal palace complexes and centres of green in large sites such as allotment gardens turn into venues for the art of gardening.  Every guest can choose their own route from the multi-faceted programme. The campaign weekend follows a different motto every year, always ensuring variety even without changing the venue.

Closing knowledge gaps, sharpening senses

Many of the participating partners offer cultural events or guided tours as well. Walking tours help people fill in the gaps in their education as they learn more about ornamental plants and garden landscaping. Participants in workshops on natural scents can sharpen their sense of smell, while exploring the realistic landscape images in the art campaigns will make their eyes grow wide with wonder.

Concerts complete the repertoire. Anyone who wishes to be further inspired or share photos of their own place can do so on social media using the following identifiers: @kulturinwestfalen and #tagdergärtenundparks.
