Monastery Gardens Route
A tour of monastery gardens including Schloss Corvey
Discover medieval secrets on a cycling tour of monastery gardens including Schloss Corvey and the Willow Palace in Rheder.
Medieval secrets await cyclists in the region around Höxter in the Teutoburg Forest on the Kloster-Garten-Route (Monastery Gardens Route). Centuries ago, thriving gardens could be found behind the walls of orders such as the Benedictines, Cistercians, Franciscans and Dominicans. Now they can be rediscovered and admired by passing visitors.
The fully signposted Monastery Gardens Route, which is connected to the NRW network of cycle paths, focuses on seven different monastery gardens. Along the 315 km path, cyclists will discover green oases and monastic spirituality. The route also features tourist attractions such as the Organ Museum in Borgentreich, the Weser Skywalk in Beverungen, the Weidenpalais (Willow Palace) in Rheder and Schloss Corvey, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The land of culture that is the Höxter district contains a total of 28 different monastic establishments.
Visitors can gain a boost of energy from the electric bikes available for hire in the region, adding some motorised support to ascents and descents of the mountainous sections. Rental points, free maps, information on the route and GPS data for navigation devices can be found in the “Teuto_Navigator”, the interactive online route planner for the Teutoburg Forest holiday region.
