The Buddenberg Arboretum is located on the Steinberg hill in the eastern part of Bad Driburg and is one of the spa town’s most special natural sites. Spanning approximately ten hectares, this freely accessible arboretum is home to more than 200 native and exotic species of trees and shrubs. These include ginkgo, witch hazel, the gum tree, the handkerchief tree, the feather bush tree, the Japanese wingnut, various maple species, and striking solitary oaks. The arboretum was established in 1965 and 1966 on the initiative of Adolf Buddenberg, then chairman of the Spa and Tourism Association, whose name the site still bears today. The paths lead through meadows, groups of trees, and shady forest sections. Wide vistas open up to the Eggegebirge mountains and, on a clear day, all the way to the Weserbergland. In addition to its botanical diversity, the site is characterized by a geological quarry and Bronze Age burial mounds.
