From Aachen to Euskirchen
Aachen
The Hamburg hotel group Novum Hospitality and IHG Hotels & Resorts are building a new hotel with 160 rooms in Aachen. The lease agreement with Grundstücksgesellschaft Aachen Zollamtstraße for the hotel, which will be called "Holiday Inn - The Niu Aixley", was recently signed. The opening is planned for 2027.
Bad Salzuflen
A new hotel is being built in the centre of Bad Salzuflen. The historic property of the former Fürstenhof has been sold to the Eggersmann Group from Marienfeld. The construction company is planning a modern four-star superior hotel with around 140 double rooms and up to eight flats. The future Fürstenhof is scheduled to reopen in autumn 2027.
Bergisch Gladbach
Following renovation and expansion, Lerbach Castle is set to reopen its doors as a four-star superior Dorint Hotel in 2026. The Cologne-based hotel chain already has very specific plans for the hotel, from a 140-seat restaurant and a banqueting area to a wine cellar.
Bielefeld
The Steigenberger Hotel Bielefelder Hof reopened with a big celebration on 24 November. 100 of the 161 rooms have been freshly renovated. A twelve metre high light construction is the highlight of the new lobby, which can also be used as a co-working space. Twelve rooms for up to 200 people are available for conferences.
Bonn
Stayery is developing a serviced apartment building in Bonn with the Borchard Group and Bautra. The seller of the property is the asset management company Ampega. The property is to be converted by mid-2027, creating 79 units with community areas.
Düsseldorf
A subsidiary of Premier Inn Holding has purchased a 1,333-square-metre plot at Schiessstraße 45a in Düsseldorf-Heerdt. A 124-room Premier Inn hotel is to be built on the site. Fifty parking spaces will be available for hotel guests in the neighbouring multi-storey car park.
In the Oberkassel district, adjacent to the residential development at Heerdter Sandberg, plans are in place for a six-storey hotel building with 80 rooms, a restaurant and conference rooms. The target audience is business travellers. The planned golden façade will give the building a distinctive appearance.
Ipartment, a provider of business long-stay apartments, has secured a new property in Düsseldorf’s Oberkassel district, which is now being prepared for future use. A total of 105 serviced apartments are set to open by the end of 2026.
A new Motel One with 200 rooms is being built in Düsseldorf city centre. To this end, the former Karstadt Sports building in a central location will be demolished from the start of July. The opening is planned for late 2028 or early 2029. The hotel will be the chain’s fourth location in Düsseldorf. According to the Rheinische Post, the project has already been sold to investors, including a subsidiary of Signal Iduna and a family of entrepreneurs.
A new luxury hotel with 136 rooms and a rooftop bar open to the public is to be built at Kasernenstraße 6, right next to the Kö. The project has been agreed with the city, and a decision on its implementation is expected in the second half of the year. The hotel could open by 2029.
Dortmund
Hotel operator Bob W is expanding its portfolio and opening an aparthotel in Dortmund. Fifty-two apartments, each with a kitchen and digital services, are being built in the historic Alte Post building. A long-term lease with Aroundtown secures the central location, not far from the main railway station. The opening is planned for 2026.
Duisburg
Premier Inn has opened its first hotel in Duisburg. The hotel in the old town, opposite the town hall, offers 219 rooms. A special feature is the extension of the historic Ott-Vogel-Haus, which has been faithfully reconstructed and now houses 19 rooms across three floors.
Euskirchen
The Josef Wund spa group operates a large sauna, a sports pool and the so-called ‘Palmenparadies’ in Euskirchen. The company now wishes to expand the complex to include a hotel and, in addition to adults, to target families with children in particular. The ball is now in the town’s court. It must amend the land-use plan and draw up a development plan for the project.
From Jülich to Leverkusen
Jülich
A new Dorint hotel with 120 rooms is to be built at Brückenkopf Park in Jülich by mid-2028. The project is part of the urban development around the park.
Cologne
The former Senate Hotel in Cologne's city centre by the cathedral is expected to reopen in 2027. The hotel group Foremost Hospitality is taking over the former Senatshotel.
Kempen
Construction of a five-storey hotel with 240 beds and 98 rooms is set to begin in Kempen on the Lower Rhine in autumn 2025. The operator will be the Havenhostel chain, which currently has four hotels in northern Germany.
Krefeld
A project that could set new standards in the German hotel landscape will begin in Krefeld in 2026. The historic Hotel Krefelder Hof on the Lower Rhine has been taken over. This is to be demolished and rebuilt, together with a senior citizens' residence.
Leverkusen
Housing provider Ipartment is planning to build 32 long-term flats in the former boiler house on the former railway site at Grünes Kreuz in Leverkusen. The "industrial charm" of the brick building, which was erected in 1948, is to be preserved.
From Mönchengladbach to Sonsbeck
Mönchengladbach
: Over the next five years, a private investor in Mönchengladbach plans to build a new hotel complex. This is to be situated between Hindenburgstraße and Lambertsstraße and will feature around 140 hotel beds as well as a rooftop bar with an outdoor area on the top floor. The planned hotel, with its entrance on Hindenburgstraße, will occupy the second to fifth floors of a five-storey building.
The Berlin-based Dormero Group is set to open a hotel on Künkelstraße in Mönchengladbach at the end of 2025. It is a timber-hybrid construction project comprising 110 rooms and 25 apartments.
Rheine
In Rheine, in the northern Münsterland region, Germany’s first Fairfield by Marriott hotel is set to be built. The foundation stone for the new 120-room hotel has now been laid. The opening is planned for spring 2027.
Sonsbeck
The owners of the Hochwald estate in Sonsbeck, near the Dutch border, plan to build a three-storey hotel covering 900 square metres in the Labbeck district. It is set to become the region’s first certified organic wellness hotel. The building will be constructed in accordance with ecological principles, with energy sourced from renewable sources. Amenities for guests will include wellness facilities, a spa, yoga rooms, a roof terrace and a heated outdoor pool. Construction work is due to be completed by 2027.
