From world heritage to wind chute
Unique water fun
Tip 1
Largest indoor surfing hall in the world
The summer never ends in NRW, thanks to this water sports attraction: on the city border between Düsseldorf and Meerbusch, the world's largest indoor surfing hall (6000 square metres) offers constant waves. Beginners and advanced surfers alike will find their luck here: the wave can be adjusted according to the level of ability, rolling more gently for beginners' courses and faster later on. In addition to the nine-metre-wide surf wave, there are also beach volleyball courts, surf skating facilities, bars and lounges in the indoor area.
Tip 2
Swimming in a work of art
It gets extremely lively in summer on the grounds of the Zollverein World Heritage Site in Essen: what is probably the coolest swimming location in the world opens in front of the coke oven battery - and invites visitors to enjoy a free visit to the pool with an extra dose of culture every summer. The 2.40 metre deep pool was actually created for an art project, with two overseas containers welded together to form a large pool. Important to know: Even though there is a lifeguard on site, non-swimmers are not allowed in the pool, even with swimming aids.
Tip 3
Fun on the wind slide
Gigantic slide fun with loops, a drop start from a height of ten metres or with a tailwind awaits you in Plettenberg: Aquamagis offers eleven different slides for water fun with an adrenaline kick. Do you love speed? Then let yourself be blown through the bends on the world's first wind slide "Storm Force 1" with wind speeds of up to 100 km/h or go on a six metre long free flight on the "Pink Jump" slide.
The less daring don't have to sit on dry land: In addition to slides for children, the wave pool, panorama pool and pool bar in the adventure river offer further opportunities for water fun in the Sauerland. Tired? There are various accommodation options, holiday homes, flats, simple group accommodation and motorhome pitches right next to the fun pool.
Tip 4
Bathing with the Romans
Xanten in the Lower Rhine region invites you to follow in the footsteps of the ancient Romans and cool off in various ways during, before or after your visit: On the one hand, the grounds of the Xanten Archaeological Park, Germany's largest open-air archaeological museum, are home to a large water playground with elements of Roman hydraulic engineering (and the Roman Museum is built on the foundations of the former town baths). On the other hand, the Xantener Südsee is within walking distance and offers modern bathing fun against a historical backdrop with the finest sandy beach, play and activity areas, a diving tower and bathing islands.
