Münsterplatz

Aachen

Münsterplatz opens up directly in front of Aachen Cathedral and forms a tranquil counterpoint to the narrow streets of the surrounding old town. Standing here, the square feels like a small stage on which the UNESCO World Heritage Site appears particularly impressive. The open space allows you to take in the architecture and observe the changing light. At the edges, façades are reminiscent of earlier times, including the historic front of a building that once replaced the Elisabeth Hospital and now houses the Schmetz City Library at the cathedral. Despite its central location, the square exudes a pleasant serenity and invites you to pause for a moment before continuing your stroll through the old town.
