Ascheberg

With around 15,000 inhabitants, Ascheberg is located in the city triangle of Münster, Hamm and Dortmund, making it the ideal starting point for cycling and hiking tours on the well-signposted cycle path network through the Münsterland region. Numerous Pättkes (cycle paths) lead through farming communities, forests and fields, past paddocks and small streams, moated castles and old manor houses. You won't find this everywhere: there are 18 castles, palaces and manor houses within a radius of 13 km.
You can experience the history of moated castles from the Middle Ages to the Baroque period.

Nature is very important in our municipality, as both the "Davert" local recreation area and the Nordkirchen - Westerwinkel castle axis are part of the European NATURA 2000 network of protected areas. Together with nature conservation associations, we have made it our mission to make these areas accessible to you in a nature-friendly way. Experience oak, beech and moorland forests as well as the middle-spotted and black woodpecker, the honey buzzard, red kite or the descendants of the aurochs and Konik horses in the Davert game reserve. Various adventure and discovery stations guide you through these fascinating natural areas in an informative way.
