LWL Industrial Museum Brickworks Museum Lage

Lage

The historic factory buildings of the former Beermann brickworks on the outskirts of Lage in the Teutoburg Forest form the core of the industrial museum. Until machines set the pace from 1922 onwards, bricks were produced by strenuous manual labor.

Permanent and temporary exhibitions bring to life both the production processes and the tough working and living conditions in the brick industry - an important piece of industrial history, as the rapid growth of towns and factories during industrialization would have been inconceivable without the mass production of bricks.

On production days in Lage, the machines still run at full speed and the fire for firing bricks blazes in the ring kiln. The size of the former clay mining area becomes clear on the trips on the light railroad, which once pulled the wagons with the clay.

With a wide range of themed tours, creative workshops, cabaret evenings and festivals throughout the year, the Brickworks Museum has long since become a cultural forum for all age groups.

The Brickworks Museum Lage is an anchor point on the European Route of Industrial Heritage.

Important information about accessibility: certificates

  • "Reisen für Alle" (“Travel for All”) is a nationwide, uniform labeling system for barrier-free travel. It offers reliable information on the accessibility of tourist offerings, such as hotels, attractions and means of transport. Providers who allow themselves to be labeled are checked for accessibility by specially trained surveyors. The results are published in detailed test reports so that travelers with disabilities know exactly which offers are suitable for their needs.
