Philara Collection

Düsseldorf

The Philara Collection is a public exhibition space for international contemporary art. Located in the former Lennarz glassworks in Düsseldorf’s central Flingern district, it now hosts both solo exhibitions and thematic group exhibitions across 1,700 square meters. The Gil Bronner Collection, comprising over 1,800 works, is also on view here. The program is diverse: in addition to collaborations with the Düsseldorf Art Academy—as seen in past exhibitions such as *Mirrors and Windows*, *Attempts to Be Many*, and *What Is Steady Anyway?* —solo presentations by internationally active female artists also take place here. For example, the Philara Collection hosted the first solo exhibitions in Germany by Mercedes Azpilicueta and Sumi Anjuman. In group exhibitions on current themes, such as *Breathing Water, Drinking Air* or *Cutting the Puppeteer’s Strings*, we bring together emerging artists with established, globally active artists. In collaboration with other institutions, the Philara Collection also hosts events such as dance and theater performances, concerts, talks, and symposia. On the roof of the building—which was renovated by Sieber Architekten and has won two architectural awards—there is also a 550-square-meter sculpture garden as well as a café featuring works of art, which operates as the Bulle Bistro during the day and as the Weinbar by Bulle in the evening.
