With the special exhibition "Katharina Sieverding & Joseph Beuys - Every Person an Artist...", Museum Schloss Moyland in Bedburg-Hau is bringing the photography specialist into a dialog with her former professor. The show, which will be on display from October 11, 2026 to February 7, 2027, focuses on their time together at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. Visitors will be able to see how Sieverding adopted key principles from Beuys' teaching, in particular his ideas on participation, freedom, equality and democracy.
A central work in the exhibition is the 243-part film work "Eigenbewegung" from 1969, which shows numerous protagonists of the art scene at the time, including Imi Knoebel, Blinky Palermo, Jörg Immendorff and Joseph Beuys himself. In addition, the exhibition team has set up a special section dedicated to the fashionable self-designs of Sieverding and Beuys. Both developed a high recognition value through deliberately reduced but striking items of clothing and accessories - an aspect that is documented and reflected on here.
Sieverding, who worked as a costume designer at Vienna's Burgtheater before her time at the Academy, combined fashion, scenic design and artistic statement. As Museum Schloss Moyland explains, the aim of the juxtaposition is to convey the political and social concerns of both art icons.
