With the special exhibition “Katharina Sieverding & Joseph Beuys – Everyone Is an Artist…,” the Museum Schloss Moyland in Bedburg-Hau brings the photography specialist into a dialogue with her former professor. The exhibition, which will run from October 11, 2026, through February 7, 2027, focuses on their time together at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. Visitors can explore how Sieverding adopted key principles from Beuys’ teachings, particularly his ideas on participation, freedom, equality, and democracy.
A central work in the exhibition is the 243-part film series “Eigenbewegung” from 1969, which features numerous figures from the art scene of that time, including Imi Knoebel, Blinky Palermo, Jörg Immendorff, and Joseph Beuys himself. In addition, the exhibition team has set up a special section dedicated to the fashion designs created by Sieverding and Beuys for themselves. Through deliberately minimalist yet striking garments and accessories, both developed a high degree of recognizability—an aspect that is documented and reexamined here.
Sieverding, who worked as a costume designer at Vienna’s Burgtheater before attending art school, combined fashion, stage design, and artistic expression. As Museum Schloss Moyland explains, the aim of this juxtaposition is to convey the political and social concerns of both art icons.
