Where hiking is at its best

Top Trails of Germany

Mirror, mirror on the wall, where are the most beautiful hiking trails in the whole country? The Rothaarsteig, the Hermannshöhen and the Eifelsteig are three of the "Top Trails of Germany" in NRW - one more beautiful than the other. Each has its own exciting history, each has its own special character.

The Eifelsteig trail is wild and romantic: under the motto "Where rock and water accompany you", it leads along a total of 313 kilometres through the only national park in North Rhine-Westphalia where nature calls the shots. The Hermannshöhen invite you to travel back in time through the (earth's) history, with stone witnesses telling stories from different eras. The Hermann Monument, for example, which towers over the Teutoburg Forest, commemorates a battle between the Romans and Germanic tribes in 9 AD. The Rothaarsteig, on the other hand, focuses on the here and now: The high-altitude trail promises hiking with all the senses. Numerous adventure stations along the route from Brilon to Dillenburg invite you to sharpen your awareness of the natural surroundings.

No matter which route you choose, you will experience unspoilt nature, learn exciting stories and find your hiking adventure!
