The Aggertalsperre near Gummersbach is one of the most popular destinations in the Oberbergisches Land region when it comes to water-based recreation. The widely branching reservoir is nestled between forested slopes and offers many opportunities for activities. At designated swimming areas such as the Bruch Beach or the Aggertalsperre Recreation Camp, swimming, sunbathing, and playing on the shore take center stage. Water sports also define the character of the lake: sailing, canoeing, rowing, pedal boating, and diving are all available. Campgrounds and places to stop for a bite to eat also make the Aggertalsperre an attractive destination for weekend getaways. All around the reservoir, trails invite visitors to take walks, short hikes, and bike rides, offering ever-changing views of the water, forest, and coves. For example, the “Energieweg” themed hike—part of the “Streifzug” series by Bergisches Wanderland—starts at the dam.
Art is also now on display along the dam wall. A 137-meter-wide and 6.5-meter-high artwork is intended to remind visitors of the importance of sustainable and efficient resource management.
