Bevertalsperre

Bevertalsperre (lake)

Hückeswagen

The Bevertalsperre is not only very popular with amateur athletes, cyclists and water sports enthusiasts due to its charming location in the Bergisch landscape, it also offers the opportunity to jump into the "cool water" in good weather, sunbathe on the shore in the numerous bays or settle down on one of the beautifully situated campsites to enjoy the idyll. You will find bathing spots at the Zornige Ameise, at campsite I "Käfernberg" and II "Großberghausen" (see download).

The Bevertalsperre is the oldest service water dam and was built between 1896 and 1898. Strictly speaking, the old Bevertalsperre was built in these years. This had a reservoir capacity of 3.30 million cubic meters and supplied industrial water for the Wuppertal industry.

Today, the Bevertal Dam mainly serves the purpose of raising the low water level of the Wupper and flood protection. It was built between 1935 and 1938 and put into operation in 1938. It is connected to the Neye and Schevelingen dams by tunnels. Together they form the so-called "Beverblock". The facility has a reservoir area of 200 ha, a reservoir height of 31.5 m and a reservoir capacity of 23.7 million m³.
