Düsseldorf Marionette Theater

Düsseldorf

The Düsseldorfer Marionetten-Theater is located in the heart of Düsseldorf's Carlstadt district - between Königsallee and the Rhine embankment promenade. The repertoire includes 22 full-length productions of all kinds, from "Jim Knopf" to Shakespeare's comedy "A Midsummer Night's Dream". With over 1,350 performances, Michael Ende's "Der satanarchäolügenialkohöllische Wunschpunsch" has long since become a cult play, closely followed by Mozart's opera "Die Zauberflöte".

In most performances, the five-member ensemble of players moves the puppets, which are strung on strings up to two meters long, from three guide bridges. In some plays, however, the puppeteers are also visible on stage with their figures on short strings; depending on the production, the puppetry is supplemented by table puppets, shadow and flat figures or masks. Everything that can be seen on stage is largely created in the company's own theater workshops. Figures, props and backdrops are made by the ensemble of players according to designs by the theater director Anton Bachleitner, who also does the sculpting himself.

In around 150 performances a year, lively and contemporary puppet theater with the highest artistic standards enchants adults and children from the age of 8.

The Düsseldorfer Marionetten-Theater is supported by the state capital Düsseldorf and the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
