The FFT Düsseldorf (Forum Freies Theater) has been in existence since 1999. It is an international production house for independent performing arts and operates in a network of production venues, theaters and other partners both regionally and internationally. It is part of the Alliance of International Production Houses, funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media.
The program is characterized by continuous collaboration with artist collectives as well as the promotion of young artists, cooperation with universities and schools and exchange with actors in the city. Artistic work with young people and an advanced program for young audiences have been part of FFT Düsseldorf's profile from the very beginning. In 2015, the FFT received the German Federal Theatre Prize for its program between the participation of city residents and experimental artistic positions in the performing arts.
In 2021, the FFT opened its new venue at KAP1 at Düsseldorf Central Station. Versatile stage and work spaces, a spacious foyer with a view of the station forecourt and a unique bar make the FFT an attractive place for encounters, exchanges and gatherings.
